City of Odessa is first mentioned in 1794, its founders were Joseph Deribas, Franz Devolan and Catherine the Great. Odessa was originally built by the European model, not only as a center of international trade, but also as the heart of science and culture of the Russian Empire. In 1809 the first municipal theater began to work. Some time later Richelieu Lyceum was built.

The seaside location of the city has played a special role in its life and prosperity, which was
the first day of its foundation. In 1797-1802 the town was part of Novorossiysk province and later
became the center of Novorossiysk  region.
In 1815 the city had more than half of all turnover of Black Sea ports including ports of Azov Sea. In 1819 the port-Franco was provided (a free and duty-free import and storage of import goods), This fact made significant and positive impact on the life of the city. In 1830 -1850 the port of Odessa has become the largest and most well-known exporter of wheat throughout the Black Sea.
In 1959 the city's population reached the mark of one hundred thousand people, including Russian, Moldavians, Greeks, Italians, Bulgarians, French and so on. But in 1853-1856 the development and growth has slowed significantly in Odessa. This process was caused by the Crimean War. But the city made up for lost time in the second half of the 19th century. This especially affected the development of the economy. The city entered into the All-Russian international system after the opening of rail traffic between Odessa and the Baltic States and after the abolition of serfdom.
At different time this city was called the Black Sea Babylon, Little Paris, South Palmyra, capital of the South and so on.
  This young city has a lot of places of interest.
The famous sight of the city is the Potemkins staircase which has 192 steps.
The most beautiful boulevard in the city is Seaside boulevard. The Greatest Street "Derebasovskaya" named after the first measure of Odessa.
State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre is the great cultural monument founded in 1884-1887
