Dnipropetrovsk

 

 Dnipropetrovsk was founded in 1787. It was named in honor of Russian Empress Catherine II (the first name was Ekaterinoslav). The first settlements on the territory of Dnepropetrovsk appeared in ancient times of early Paleolithic. In 1797 after the death of the Empress her son Paul renamed the city to Novorossiysk. Five years later the city was returned its original name. It became the center of Ekaterinoslav province.
Ekaterinoslav became an industrial city at 19-20 centuries.
This period had a positive impact on the city's architecture. Some buildings have survived to our times and became a historical monuments of Dnepropetrovsk.
The most famous of them: Catherine Higher School (1899-1900), School of Commerce (1899-1912), City Council (1901), the building of the English Club (1830) in a pseudo-gothic style.
Also in the early 20th  century was erected the monument in honour of A.S Pushkin
This monument  is one of the oldest memorials of our time.
  In 1926 the town was renamed to Dnipropetrovsk in honor of Petrovsky party activist. There is a monument to this man near the railway station on the square.
In the 70s Dnipropetrovsk became a city and the number of inhabitants exceeded one million. It became a major industrial center of Ukraine. Mainly in Dnepropetrovsk live Russian, Ukrainians and Jews.
The heritage of the ancient city is very different. From a large circus building to simple flats called "Stalin’s building." But the most beautiful sights of Dnipropetrovsk are well-known parks named after T.G. Shevchenko.
and a park named after Lazar Globa with its unusual summer theater on the water. Nowadays Dnepropetrovsk is famous for its amazing fountain near the Opera House, attractions, Dnepropetrovsk planetarium, an illuminated musical fountain, tree of happiness and a bench of love.
There is always crowded and fun In Dnepropetrovsk.
Young people often gather in the squares to talk, listen to music near a fountain.
